a transitional album through-and-through, "lone" is more a collection of half-baked musical ideas than it is a proper album -- which make sense, given many of these songs were written and recorded around 2 or 3 in the morning, after spending the night ubering drunk people around austin while loaded on monster energy drinks. that said, the album has its fair share of highlights, including "oxygen cure" and "don't let the world get you down," as well as some of the better instrumentals poor horse has ever put to tape (see: "the empty sea" and "lone"). at the end of the day, though, "lone" is mostly an afterthought, and that's quite alright. they can't all be zingers.
