the fool
when you think it's about to end
but it's really just the beginning
caught circling a tired loop
stuck looping in a ring of fire
but if i
could take my own advice
i'd probably be just fine
if i
could take my own advice
i'd move my home away from here
your mother's tired eyes
you see them in the mirror
your father's empty silence
that's something for another time
but if i
could take my own advice
i'd probably be just fine
if i
could take my own advice
i'd move my home away from here
i'd move my home away
oh boy, with this one. originally recorded under the moniker of mickey moon, "pink eyes" eventually became poor horse's debut album. it's a break-up record, to be sure, considering it was recorded in a closet at the end of the worst romantic relationship of my life. i was in a terrible headspace as I was writing and recording the songs: I don't think I've ever been so unhappy in my life, before or since, and my depression shows on bleak tunes like "shattered headlights," "the fool," and "absolutely the end." most every track on this album was recorded with a bullet in my gut, and because of that, "pink eyes" is an irreplicable, albeit flawed, document of longing and internal struggle.

recorded mostly drunk (or at least buzzed) in a closet of my ex-girlfriend's father's home, in which i was living rent-free while working as a sports editor at a small-town paper.
