I had a dream: Bob Dylan had past away There was Bono, and Willie Nelson, putting flowers on his grave And later on, in Santa Fe, I saw an actor dancing the night away Not one single camera, just a smile on his face And it's like Papa always said: Life's a funny raccoon Did you know that life's a Jackson Pollock? Did you see all the oceans painted red? It's enough to believe in the tragic mockery But so much fucking better if you feel it instead And it's like Papa always said: Life's a funny raccoon Mama said I couldn't sing when I was younger Mama said "You better learn to tie your shoes" And it's true we won't learn to love one another 'Til we find the root of our anger and our truths And It's like Papa always said: Life's a funny raccoon La La, La La, La La La La La

Can you act? How well can you fake it? All my college friends have grown up and they're wearing suits Selling cars Pushing Mary Kay Trying to land a few clients by the end of the day the end of the day Drive to Colorado Leave the warmth of my bed And the world it spins a lot slower with stars overhead What's it mean to you? Under the gaze of the heavens? And death as a freight train coming Coming down the tracks it's coming down the tracks Gonna carry on now Gonna relish the day Gonna stand on a mountaintop waiting for the stars to show me the way Will you act? And be something you're not? You're bored on an elevator rising on this pale blue dot pale blue dot this pale blue dot this pale blue dot this pale blue dot oh...

i've seen the light and it's not alright a poster boy for an endless night a skeleton war, a cross-country flight i was a master before i ever knew what was right wedding bells in a muggy lagoon your curfew's soon, but you're sniffin' brooms a well-made wig, it won't fill your soul you better exit the floor before your father comes home stainless steel loafers in a rusty cage you never learned to behave, now, god damn, who can you save? weary virginians cast their sails to the sea when you look at me, tell me, what do you see? i find peace in your eyes i find peas in your smile i find peace in your eyes i find peas in your smile i've seen the light and it's not alright a poster boy for an endless night a skeleton whore, an international flight i was finished before i ever knew what was right [...]

wiseman? 03:53
[foreboding whistling] [wave noises] all the fishermen are loading up their boys and lighting up their cigarettes and fillin' the air with smoke somewhere, in the distance a ukulele played the restless little children prayed to not fade away all the mystic ministers with their gods and their dreams spoke to faceless entities and mended endless seams oh... the thunder and the lightning and the moaning, bending wind broke those little fishing boats and all the fishermen within all those hopeless, praying children moved so far from the sea the thunder and the lightning moved on, to where they'd be the world it kept on turning the cities beeped and hummed the wiseman cackled endlessly the rest just called him dumb... dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb... well, i'm here now what am i supposed to do? [scattered applause reminiscent of the end of my beautiful dark twisted fantasy by kanye west]

about

this album will forever be connected to the road trip i took across the american west in the summer and fall of 2017. many of the songs were written while living on a marijuana farm in northern california, which is where my wife and i worked for about a month at the conclusion of our road trip. the album itself was recorded in a dank woodshed in the backyard of my sister-in-law's house, surrounded by lawn grooming equipment. it's a short and relatively subdued album with a few solid tracks, the most noteworthy being "life's a funny raccoon" and "i have seen the light! (not alright)". i was listening to a lot of neil young, wilco and bill callahan during these recording sessions, and their fingerprints are thinly veiled throughout.
